Independence Day

This year I scouted out a spot farther south from the fireworks to get a new perspective (and avoid the crowds).  Newport is not really as residential as Hoboken or Jersey City Heights so this turned out to be a pretty nice spot to enjoy the show without a billion people crowded around you (last year we watched from Jersey City Heights and it was chaos).  I also really like this spot because there were several other photographers out early like me.  I got to chat with at least 3 other guys that were crazy enough to get to the boardwalk two hours before the show to lay claim to their tripod area.  I don't think that I saw a single other photographer in the Heights last year...

This photo is probably the first of a series of fireworks shots to come.  I choose this one first because it instantly stood out like a bouquet of flowers and oddly enough was the the last shot I took of the show.  It's funny how you can fire off 400 photos and the last one be the one that grabs your attention.  BTW - This is not HDR but there will definitely be some HDRs to come as soon as I have time to process them.
