Just outside of Walvis Bay, Namibia is where some of the oldest sand dunes in the world begin. We drove from the Atlantic coast at Walvis Bay just about 30 minutes and we were smack in the middle of the dunes. This dune, known as Dune 7, is open to the public to enjoy walking and hiking around. Most of the dunes in Namibia are protected from any human activity and are generally unreachable so it was nice to climb up on top and enjoy the views, however, for some reason when the group I was with decided to climb we went for the shortest route straight up the side of the dune instead of a leisurely walk up the spine. I don't think my calves have recovered yet now a month later.
